The Unwanted Household Pharmaceuticals Takeback Program places permanent prescription drug takeback boxes in secure locations where unused prescription drugs can be safely disposed. These boxes prevent prescription and over-the-counter medications from getting into the hands of children or into the waterways, and ensure the safe, environmentally friendly disposal of pharmaceuticals. The program is a partnership with several federal and state agencies.

The Vaccine-Preventable Diseases and Immunization Program (VPDIP) works to reduce and eliminate the incidence of vaccine-preventable diseases affecting children, adolescents, and adults by raising the immunization coverage rates of Tennessee citizens. VPDIP operates federally-funded vaccine programs, supports providers with voluntary immunization data, and prepares to support communities in the case of disease outbreak.

The Veteran Reconnect Grant program works to accelerate the success of student veterans already enrolled on Tennessee campuses and create favorable conditions to recruit new student veterans. This program provides funding through grants focused on research and initiatives that would improve the success of student veterans while enhancing training for faculty and staff who work with the military community.

The Veterans Advocacy Program advocates for the rights, benefits, and well-being of veterans through a multifaceted approach. That includes disability and compensation claims advocacy and assistance, guidance and representation in the appeals process, and community engagement and partnerships to increase the awareness and accessibility of services. The program also provides regular training for local service officers and staff to ensure they’re equipped with the most current information and regulations.

Victims Services provides funding to support foundational services for victims of crime, including safe housing, crisis hotlines, forensic exams, victim advocacy, therapeutic services, legal assistance, and more. Program funding also providing opportunities for innovative, systems-level projects that focus on coordination between multiple agencies and levels of government, like Family Justice Centers, Sexual Assault Response Teams, and High-Risk Domestic Violence Response Teams.

The Viral Hepatitis Program oversees hepatitis C virus (HCV) prevention, surveillance, linkage to care, and provides clinical support to health departments throughout the state. It includes Tennessee Department of Health (TDH) HCV Project ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) that builds treatment capacity for adults and children living with hepatitis C. TDH HCV Project ECHO brings together several external subject matter experts with adult hepatitis C, pediatric hepatitis C, and pharmacy expertise to provide didactic presentations and discuss cases submitted by participants. The Viral Hepatitis Program also participates in hepatitis B virus (HBV) prevention and surveillance activities.

The Vocational Rehabilitation Program (VR) provides individualized services such as counseling and guidance, training, rehabilitation technology, transportation, and employment services to persons with disabilities in preparation for their employment in the competitive, integrated labor market. Through each individualized service plan, VR supports employment outcomes for customers that are consistent with their individual strengths, resources, abilities, capabilities, and informed choice.

The Volkswagen Diesel Settlement Fast Charge TN Network Grant Program is a partnership between the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) and the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) to develop a statewide electric vehicle (EV) fast charging network. The goal is to power the growth of EVs across Tennessee and reduce barriers to transportation electrification. The program will fund a network of fast charging stations every 50 miles along Tennessee’s interstates and major highways, adding approximately 40 new charging locations along prioritized corridor infrastructure gaps.

The Volkswagen Diesel Settlement Vehicle Replacement Programs support environmental mitigation projects that reduce emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx). Projects include replacing or repowering older diesel engines with new diesel, Alternate Fueled (propane, compressed natural gas, or diesel-electric hybrid), or all-electric engines; replacing older diesel vehicles, vessels, and equipment with new diesel, alternate fueled, or all-electric vehicles, vessels, and equipment; and installing charging infrastructure for light duty all-electric vehicles.

Voluntary Pre-K (VPK) is a state-funded pre-school opportunity for children four years of age and their families that meet the income eligibility requirements set forth federally (185% federal poverty level). VPK is a competitive grant offered to school districts within Tennessee. The goal of VPK is to ensure that young at-risk children are thriving in a high-quality early learning environment that sets them up to enter kindergarten well.

The Volunteer Firefighter Equipment and Training Grant provides funding to purchase firefighting equipment (other than fire trucks or vehicles) used by firefighters to extinguish fires and protect the lives of firefighters. The program will serve the volunteer fire service in two manners: 1) pay the local match portion for volunteer fire departments receiving a federal grant for equipment and/or training and 2) provide an opportunity for volunteer fire departments to apply directly to the State Fire Marshal’s Office for equipment.
