Commercial Driver Licensing

The Commercial Driver Licensing program is responsible for testing and training of applicants for commercial driver licenses. The program also trains state and third-party testers to conduct training across the state. The program includes the Heroes to Highways program that helps veterans obtain commercial driver’s licenses.

Driver Financial Responsibility

Driver Financial Responsibility coordinates the cancellation, revocation, and suspension actions against driving privileges resulting from crashes, moving violations, weapons violations, child support violations, and failures to appear in court. The program is also responsible for the reinstatement of driving privileges.

Driver’s License Issuance

The Driver’s License Issuance program is responsible for issuing of driver licenses to ensure that drivers meet the minimum requirements of safe driving in Tennessee.

Ignition Interlock

The TN Ignition Interlock Program allows certain individuals with driving under the influence (DUI) convictions to obtain a restricted driver’s license, permitting them to drive vehicles equipped with an ignition interlock device (IID). Effective and efficient implementation of this program is part of the state’s efforts to promote highway safety and save lives.

School Resource Officer Grant Program

The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security provides grant funds to law enforcement agencies to support the deployment of school resource officers in every K-12 public and charter school in Tennessee. This is part of Tennessee’s effort to promote school safety.

Tennessee Advanced Communications Network

The Tennessee Advanced Communications Network (TACN) is a statewide radio communications system available to all state and local first responders allowing them to communicate seamlessly over a non-proprietary radio platform. This allows responders immediate and uninhibited communications across jurisdictional boundaries for daily operations and in disaster situations.
