Program Description
The Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) is a federal program that provides matching grants to states to administer to state and local governments for the acquisition and development of public outdoor recreation areas and facilities. All land associated with the funded projects must be owned by a government entity and an LWCF grant requires an equal organization match.

The Land and Water Conservation Funds provide state of Tennessee grant dollars to city and county governments in Tennessee for public recreation facilities and/or acquisition of land that will be available for future development for public recreation facilities. Land that has been purchased, developed, and/or renovated with LWCF assistance is protected for public recreation in perpetuity.
