The Renal Health program assists individuals suffering from End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) or who are at risk of developing ESRD. The program provides financial assistance to participants in the form of reimbursements to health care providers. It partners with dialysis centers to provide professional and clinical services to patients.

Reproductive and Women’s Health promotes the health and well-being of women. Strategies to decrease unplanned and mistimed pregnancies and make sure women get high-quality health care before, during, and after pregnancy and throughout their lifetimes, can help reduce serious health problems and deaths. We use evidence-based strategies such as breast cancer screening, long-acting reversible contraception access, teen pregnancy prevention programs, and preconception education interventions that provide information about the risks and benefits of behaviors that affect a woman’s health before, during, and after pregnancy. Additional programs focus on family planning, presumptive eligibility for TennCare, comprehensive cancer control, maternal health innovations, and reducing maternal death due to violence.

The Rural Hospital Improvement Program supports and sustains small rural hospitals through both operational and financial improvement through federal grants from the Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA). It includes the Medicare Rural Hospital Flexibility (FLEX) Program that works specifically with the Critical Access Hospitals (CAHs) that have 25 beds or less. It also includes the Small Rural Hospital Improvement Program (SHIP) that works with hospitals that have 49 beds or less.

Tennessee Safe Baby Courts use a collaborative, multi-disciplinary approach to dependency and neglect cases with the needs of the youngest children (ages 0-3 and their siblings) as the touchstones for decisions in a case. Anchored by the Juvenile Court judge or magistrate, each court team works together to address barriers to permanency and to meet any other needs a child and/or a caregiver might have. Special focus is placed on the infant mental health aspect of a young child who has either been placed (or is at risk of being placed) in DCS custody.

The School Based Dental Prevention Program (SBDPP) is a statewide program targeting children in grades pre-kindergarten through eighth in Title I eligible schools. The program offers preventive services that include, but not limited to, oral health education, oral health screenings, referrals for care, immediate need follow-up, dental sealants, and fluoride applications to children in the school setting. Information regarding TennCare eligibility and the application process is also provided.

The School Improvement Program is designed to provide a continuum of supports and interventions to Tennessee’s districts and schools that are federally designated as Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI), Additional Targeted Support and Improvement (ATSI) and Targeted Support and Improvement (TSI). Through ongoing planning support, grant funding opportunities, technical assistance and monitoring, this program ensures that districts and schools utilize strategies built around key levers (strong leadership, effective instruction and student supports and services) that support rapid turnaround efforts.

The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security provides grant funds to law enforcement agencies to support the deployment of school resource officers in every K-12 public and charter school in Tennessee. This is part of Tennessee’s effort to promote school safety.

The Seating and Positioning Clinics— located in Greeneville, Nashville, and Arlington— serve children and adults with seating and positioning needs by creating custom therapeutic equipment and modifying existing seating systems. At the clinics, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and equipment fabricators work closely with individuals to support them in a safe and comfortable way, promoting optimal body alignment, so they can relax, learn new skills, and be more actively engaged in their day. Mobile clinics in East and West TN ensure rural access and service delivery.

The Tennessee Securities Education and Outreach programs promote financial literacy and fraud education by providing Tennesseans with practical, adaptable, and current financial education to help investors not only evaluate investment opportunities, but also avoid becoming victims of fraud.

The Senior Center Grants are a statewide grant program funded by the TN General Assembly that supports senior centers with capital projects, marketing, programming, and routine operating expenses. The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) is a community service and work-based job training program that provides training for low-income, unemployed seniors (adults 55+). SCSEP participants gain work experience in a variety of community service activities at non-profit and public facilities, including schools, hospitals, day-care centers, and senior centers. Participants also have access to employment assistance through American Job Centers.
