Statewide Drug Teams provide specialized case management to families with drug-exposed newborns (0-12 months). Cases arise through investigations involving drug exposure. Teams consist of licensed clinicians and peer advocates who provide families with tailored support in finding treatment and recovery options and support networks.

Family Support and Advocacy program provides comprehensive family advocacy, outreach, support, and referral service for families of children with Serious Emotional Disturbances and professionals who work with these children. The program promotes the provision of services to youth with emotional disturbance and their families based on system of care principals, including evidence-based strategies such as Common Sense Parenting. The program also provides information and training to lay and professional groups; a webpage that provides mental health resources; an online interactive library of mental health books and pamphlets; and provides a quarterly, informative, and educational newsletter.

In partnership with Tennessee State Parks Conservancy, city parks and outdoor areas, this program creates enriching outdoor reading experiences for children and families to connect literacy with a fun, physical activity. It achieves this by presenting a children’s storybook on child-height panels along a short trail to promote adult-child interaction around books and nature.

The Stream and Wetland Restoration Grant Program selects and funds projects that best offset natural resource damages to surface waters of the state with a nexus to those injured and assessed through enforcement. The program provides financial assistance to nonprofit corporations, state agencies, federal agencies, and municipal entities in Tennessee to implement stream and wetland restoration projects. Those projects fit into one of the following eligible project categories: stream and wetland restoration and enhancement, protection of waters and wetlands, and water quality improvement.

Team Development integrates Tennessee Special Operations Response Teams (TN-SORT) and All-Hazards Incident Management Teams (AHIMTs) to build a robust, multi-disciplinary emergency response capability across the state. Through a partnership with the Tennessee Fire Chief’s Association’s Mutual Aid System (TMAS), TN-SORT establishes a network of highly trained and properly equipped teams ready to deploy for technical rescue and special operations both statewide and nationally. Complementing this, the AHIMT program provides a structured framework for training emergency responders and community leaders in managing diverse incidents—from natural disasters to public health crises— building a statewide team response capability, enhancing coordination, operational effectiveness, and community resilience in the face of all hazards.

The Tennessee STRONG Act Program provides tuition reimbursement to education institutions within Tennessee on behalf of eligible members of the Tennessee National Guard. Service members may use this benefit to pursue associate degrees, undergraduate degrees, graduate degrees, and certificates or diplomas at colleges of applied technology. Since its inception in 2018, over 2,000 National Guard service members have utilized this benefit.

This program provides services incorporating Hazelden evidenced-based curriculum to female offenders with a history of substance use disorders at the Women’s Therapeutic Residential Center. Recipients are identified for services by utilizing the STRONG R Assessment, Texas Christian University Drug Screen Tool, and any other collateral information that suggest addiction treatment and recovery services are needed.

The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) provides administrative and operational payments to eligible agencies for serving meals to low-income children. The SFSP is a partnership between the USDA Food and Nutrition Service, the Tennessee Department of Human Services (TDHS) and community-based organizations to provide free meals to children in their communities throughout the summer. Eligible agencies include private nonprofit organizations, local governments, and state colleges and universities.

Summer Learning Camps serve students in all districts across the state in rising K – grade 9, focusing on supporting students defined as priority status. Students receive an additional 4 – 6 weeks of instruction and intervention using grade-level materials in small groups to catch them up prior to the start of the new school year. All districts are required to provide an opportunity for all priority students in rising grades K - 9 with a summer learning opportunity.

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is a U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) nutritional assistance initiative administered at the state level. SNAP funding provides SNAP Assistance Program Education (SNAP-Ed), Informational Activities to Low-Income Households (SNAP Outreach), Disaster SNAP, SNAP Employment and Training (individual section), and Online Purchasing programs.
