Correction
The Supportive Living Unit in state prisons provides comprehensive behavioral health services to severely and chronically mentally ill inmates. Services include triage, assessment, screening, evaluation, medication management, therapy (behavior modification, group, and individual), case management, and clinical supervision.
Human Services
The overarching goal of the TOA Pilot program is to help individuals (and their families) with low incomes become self-sufficient. Pilots are using a variety of care coordination models to increase families’ capacity for self-sufficiency across multiple domains and are being evaluated to determine their impact within the community.
Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services
TDMHSAS-Homebuilders is an intensive family preservation services (IFPS) model designed to increase well-being, improve permanency, enhance safety, and increase family stability of children (ages 0-18) who are in or at imminent risk of out-of-home placement (OOHP) as a result of parent/caregiver substance misuse (PSM). The program utilizes the Homebuilders model, the nation’s oldest and best-documented IFPS program, to achieve those goals for eligible children and families. Therapists are in the home (and/or community) a minimum of 8-10 hours per week, on average, for 4-6 weeks in direct contact with the family. Services are currently offered in 9 rural Middle Tennessee counties: Bedford, Coffee, Franklin, Giles, Hickman, Lawrence, Lincoln, Maury, and Marshall.
Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services
The Tennessee Department of Correction Community Treatment Collaborative (TDOC CTC) is a collaborative effort between TDOC and Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (TDMHSAS) to divert at-risk state probation and parole technical violators with substance use or co-occurring disorders from returning to jail or state prison. The TDOC CTC program provides substance use treatment services including Detoxification, Residential Rehab, Halfway House, and Outpatient Services. TDOC CTC utilizes evidence-based interventions such as Assessments and Screenings, Matrix Model, Thinking for Change, Seeking Safety, Motivational Interviewing, Motivational Enhancement Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Contingency Management Interventions, and Relapse Prevention Therapy.
TennCare
This program covers a supply of 100 disposable diapers per month for TennCare and CoverKids-enrolled children under age two. Although TennCare has historically covered diapers and other incontinence products for individuals with illnesses or conditions that impact their ability to control their bladder or bowels, TennCare has not covered these products for children younger than age two until this program that launched in August of 2024. Approximately half of all births in Tennessee are covered by TennCare, and half of all Tennessee children receive their health care through TennCare. Specifically, there are approximately 100,000 children under the age of two covered by TennCare and CoverKids .
Tennessee Academy for School Leaders (TASL) is an instructional leadership academy for new administrators that provides learning, support, and networking with the result of administrator license advancement. The purpose of the academy is to instill and reinforce instructional leadership for educational effectiveness. Educators who are in their first three years of an administrative “mandated” role are eligible for TASL.
Safety and Homeland Security
The Tennessee Advanced Communications Network (TACN) is a statewide radio communications system available to all state and local first responders allowing them to communicate seamlessly over a non-proprietary radio platform. This allows responders immediate and uninhibited communications across jurisdictional boundaries for daily operations and in disaster situations.
The Tennessee Agricultural Enhancement Program (TAEP) provides cost share dollars to agricultural producers for the purpose of making long-term investments in Tennessee farms and communities. Participation allows producers to maximize farm profits, adapt to changing market situations, improve operation safety, increase farm efficiency, and make a positive economic impact in their communities.
Disability and Aging
Tennessee Believes provides grants to higher education institutions to increase the number of inclusive programs that serve students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Grants are awarded to two- or four-year colleges and universities in the state that are committed to launching new programs or enhancing existing programs. These grants are intended to support the strategic planning and partnerships that will lead to the inclusion of students with intellectual and developmental disabilities in classrooms and campus life.
Economic and Community Development
ECD develops downtowns in rural communities in Tennessee using the Main Street Four-Point approach—design, economic restructuring, promotion, and organization—with communities that would like to engage the Main Street program but lack the staffing or funding to do so.
Disability and Aging
The Tennessee Early Intervention System (TEIS) is a voluntary program that provides services to infants and young children who have disabilities or other developmental delays. TEIS helps families with children with disabilities or developmental delays connect to the support and services they need. At the point of eligibility, an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) team meeting will be held to determine the services and support that will help the child reach their optimal development, should the family decide to receive services.
Higher Education
The Tennessee Education Lottery Scholarship (TELS) HOPE program aims to recognize and promote academic achievement in high school through scholarship to retain the state's "best and brightest" students in Tennessee colleges and universities. The HOPE supplements, the General Assembly Merit Scholarship and Aspire recognize very high achieving and low-income students eligible for HOPE, respectively.
