Program Description
Withdrawal Management Services, which includes Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT), are provided at West Tennessee State Penitentiary to combat the number of overdoses and to improve treatment retention. Services last at least seven weeks for inmates who have overdosed or have serious clinical needs. Approved inmates should be transferred for intervention due to acute clinical needs. Evidence-based substance use education is provided in this program with Substance Use Recovery Education (SURE). However, this is not a treatment program and is considered a mandatory housing assignment based on the individual having a drug overdose event.
