Innovative School Models (ISM) is a way to eliminate structural barriers that exist between high school, workforce, and postsecondary systems. They allow students the ability to seamlessly make connections ensuring that all students graduate high school prepared to successfully complete a postsecondary credential or attain high-quality employment. ISM empowers schools to transform the traditional high school and middle school models to foster a culture of college and career awareness and readiness.

The Insurance Education and Outreach programs provide materials to the public that cover an array of insurance and insurance related issues, disaster assistance, and referrals to special programs. These materials include printed brochures, informational calendars, and internet resources like web articles, newsletters, and presentations, and also in-person visits to meet with Tennessee citizens.

A program designed to provide intensive long-term, wrap-around support services to allow people to be discharged from the state’s Regional Mental Health Institutes into supportive living facilities in the community. The goal of the Intensive Long-term Support (ILS) program is to provide quality, safe, and affordable permanent supportive housing for individuals discharging from the State’s Regional Mental Health Institutes who would otherwise not be able to successfully live in the community due to the lack of available housing with the capacity to meet their specific needs.

Intercept is an integrated, intensive in-home parenting skills program used to safely prevent children from entering custody or to reunify them with family as quickly as possible if a period of out of home care is necessary. Intercept provides intensive in-home services to children and youth (ages 0-18) at risk of entry or re-entry into out-of-home placements or who are currently in out-of-home placements such as foster care, residential facilities, or group homes. The program is designed to reduce foster care utilization by providing prevention services to children and their families. Family Intervention Specialists use an integrated, trauma-informed approach to offer individualized services intended to meet the needs of children and their families. Specialists address needs identified in children’s schools, peer groups, neighborhoods, and communities, and they support the family in school or legal meetings and are on call to provide crisis support 24/7. Services generally last six to nine months if the child has not entered foster care.

Intermediate Care Facilities for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICF/IID) at community-based homes provide 24-hour supports to maintain the physical, intellectual, social and emotional capabilities of people supported. The homes meet all applicable federal and state code requirements for ICF/IID programs, are wheelchair accessible, and have the added safety measure of fire sprinkler systems.

Interpretive and Education Programming provides education, recreation, interpretive, and volunteer programming that helps Tennesseans become active stewards of our parks. A steward takes responsibility for the careful and responsible use of the natural and cultural resources entrusted to our state parks. Stewards can be staff, volunteers, Friends, active stakeholders, responsible recreators, user-group representatives, or elected officials. Interpretive and education programming sessions are tailored to reach different groups, such as a track-chair hiking program for persons with mobility challenges and a range of programs (Kit Club, Jr. Ranger Camps, Ranger Internships, Host Programs, etc.) to reach young children, children, adolescents, and adults.

Juvenile Court Prevention Grants are provided annually to twenty-seven (27) grantee to provide prevention services for youth in danger of coming into state custody due to delinquent behavior. Program areas include intensive probation, intensive aftercare, alternative school programs, and truancy prevention.

Juvenile Justice Diversion Program is a grant program that provides six providers across Tennessee with funding for community-based behavioral health services to justice-involved youth. This program utilizes evidence-based strategies such as motivational interviewing, aggression replacement training, and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy.

Justice-involved youth can be placed into state’s custody for an indeterminate and determinate amount of time to receive rehabilitative services. This includes case management, medical, dental, mental health and educational services. Placement is located based upon treatment needs and level of risk youth pose to the community.
