Advocates for Tennesseans residing in long-term care facilities, including nursing homes, assisted care living facilities, homes for the aged and adult care homes. Ombudsmen are available to help residents and their families resolve problems and answer questions related to long-term care. When residents and families cannot resolve their problems through consultation with the facility staff or governmental agencies involved, they may contact their District Ombudsman. District Ombudsmen can address concerns about a wide variety of topics including those related to the quality of care provided, resident rights, admissions, transfers, and discharges.

The Maternal Mortality Review Program identifies and addresses the factors contributing to poor pregnancy outcomes and facilitates state system changes to improve the health of women before, during, and after pregnancy. In particular, all deaths occurring during pregnancy or within a year of pregnancy are reviewed by a multi-disciplinary team to identify contributing factors and make recommendations to prevent future deaths. Recommendations are implemented at the state and local levels.

Medicaid Alternative Pathways to Independence (MAPs) is a program that helps people with intellectual and developmental disabilities learn new skills, become employed, live independently, learn about their neighborhoods, and find hobbies that interest them. The services in this program help people identify community interests and resources, build a Virtual Community Resource Map, establish meaningful community networks, and develop independent living skills through supports such as technology-enhanced home living skills, community transportation, peer mentoring, and employment services. Eligibility for MAPs begins with high school students who are in their last three years of exiting the HS setting and extends through adulthood.

The hazard mitigation program is a suite of grant opportunities for state and local governments, certain non-profit organizations, and Indian tribes. Eligible grant projects are designed to significantly reduce or permanently eliminate the loss of life and property from disasters and natural hazards. They could include reinforced corridors of public schools, seismic or wind retrofit of non-profit utilities, acquisition of flood-prone residential properties, the development of a local mitigation plan, and more. Specific grant programs include the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP), Hazard Mitigation Grant Program Post Fire (HMGP Post Fire), Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC), and Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA).

Mobile Crisis Services is a 24/7/365 response team for those who are experiencing a mental health emergency. Services may be accessed by calling 988 the suicide and crisis lifeline. Services may include telephone services provided by trained crisis specialists, face-to-face or telehealth crisis assessment, referral for additional services & treatment, stabilization of symptoms, and follow-up services.

Motorcycling can be a thrilling and challenging experience, but the safe operation of a motorcycle requires practiced skill and knowledge. The Motorcycle Rider Education program provides rider education and training courses, including two intensive courses – one for beginners and the other for more experienced riders. Courses cover universal motorcycle helmet laws, which are evidence-based. Students who successfully complete a course receive a completion card and a certificate. Those applying for a Tennessee Motorcycle License who have completed either training course who pass the vision test and pay the required fee will have their license skills and knowledge tests waived.
